Planning policy webpage:
The old system includes the Local Plan (1997), an alteration to the Local Plan (2006) and some Supplementary Planning Guidance which says how the policies will be applied. Some of the policies in these documents are out of date, have already been implemented or have been replaced by new policies so we no longer apply them.
The new system includes the Core Strategy (2010) and a number of Supplementary Planning Documents which say how our policies will be applied. We are also preparing a new policy document called the Regeneration and Environment Local Plan which will replace all the policies that are left from the old system when it is adopted. It will include site allocations for a wide variety developments and general policies which will apply to most developments across the Borough. Until it is adopted, the policies in the Regeneration and Environment Local Plan can only be given very limited weight when making planning decisions.
Other documents in the Development Plan include the Minerals and Waste Core Strategy and Policies and Sites Development Plan Documents. These include policies which could apply to all developments, as well as ones focused on minerals and waste developments.
They are also preparing a Gypsy and Traveller Development Plan Document which will allocate a new site for Gypsies and Travellers in the Borough.
