County Durham Plan update: “Next Steps”
Durham County Council circulated an email on 29th March 2016 which:
1. Officially notifies of the withdrawal of the Durham Plan
2. Has a link to the Cabinet papers for the 6th April 2016 meeting which includes the report "County Durham Plan -
the revised timetable for the Durham Plan; and
the revised Council Policy Position Statement on how planning applications will be dealt with in the meantime and which makes specific reference to the "weight" of "saved policies" and the 5 year housing supply.
3. Gives an option for those who do not wish to remain on the consultation list to be removed. However, in effect this is also a call for those who wish to be on the consultation list to contact the Council to have their details added if they are not already held. If you did not receive the email below, but wish to be on the direct consultation list, contact the Council.
The way forward
It is suggested groups and individuals check they are on the Council's contact list if they want to be on it and see what the result of the Cabinet meeting on 6th April is. Depending on the result the groups will need to decide whether a meeting of the "Antioch Gang" is best held sooner, or left until the consultation which is scheduled for June and July 2016. There may well be a meeting of the inner core of the groups with the Council in mid May and this may trigger a meeting of the Antioch Gang, though this is likely to be part of a much wider consultation in which it is to be expected the various interested groups will have the opportunity to talk with the Council. Truth is the situation is somewhat fluid at the moment so keeping in email contact and watching the Council's website and this website is likely to be useful.
At first sight it looks like a whole new process is going to be carried out with a relatively compact timetable. How much work that will involve is likely to depend on how much and what is carried forward from the previous documentation and what we think of it.
Let's hope for a positive Plan with the sorts of policies we wish to see.
